[email protected] Swede and Apple Bake A nice accompaniment to roast pork or a supper dish served with crusty bread 4oz butter 1onion peeled and diced 1lb swede, peeled and sliced into small cubes 2 cooking apples, peeled cored and sliced salt and pepper 2oz. fresh breadcrumbs 2oz grated cheddar cheese Melt 2oz butter in a saucepan and cook the onion ge ntly until soft. Arrange the onion, swede and apple pieces in layers in a greased ovenproof dish, season between each layer a nd dot with remaining butter. Mix together the breadcrumbs and grated cheese tog ether and spread over the apple mixture in the dish. Cover wi th foil and bake for 1hour in a moderate oven. Remove the cover and continue to cook until the topping is crisp and gol den. Serve hot. |
