Yeast-raised sweet buns made with sugar, egg and butter, flavoured with caraway and coated with caraway comfits. This, a fancier version of the Bath Bun, is said to have been devised by Dr. W. Oliver, who treated visitors who came to Bath for the spa waters. He later invented the Bath Oliver biscuit, to be taken when the cakes proved too fattening. See also: Bath Cakes (Historic) |
