Dittisham Plum

Fruit and Vegetables
Devon

A large desert plum with golden flesh. Believed to be grown only around the village of Dittisham in Devon, it is locally known as the ‘Plowman Plum’, possibly from the German for plum; ‘Pflaumen’.

There is a legend that the plum arrived by sea some time in the 19th Century as art of an un-saleable cargo which got left in the village.

A liqueur is made from the fruit.
