![]() Proprietary savoury biscuits of hard-baked whole wheat paste sticks, c4ins long, 1/4ins diameter of a highly distinctive knobbly form, strongly flavoured with splashes of salty yeast extract, similar in flavour to Marmite. Reputedly devised by their French technical manager J Rondalin, twiglets were introduced by Peek Frean & Co in 1930, initially marketed as a cocktail drink accompaniment. They are now (2018) manufactured by Jacob’s Biscuits in Merseyside. The word ‘twiglet’, meaning ‘a small twig’ can be traced back to at least 1825. ![]() 1935 Advertisement ![]() 2013 ![]() |
