A cheese fair was held in Winchester, which became highly significant during the early to mid 19th Century, and was a centre for the distribution of Dutch cheeses. The present [2015] ‘Old Winchester’ cheese is described by makers Mike and Judie Smales in Landford, Wiltshire as “Gouda-style cheese aged for 18 months; caramelised, smoky and with crystalline crunches.” Old Winchester Cheese Image: http://www.lyburnfarm.co.uk |
