Rapeseed, known as 'canola' elsewhere, is a brassica related to cabbage, has been grown in England for centuries, and may have been introduced by the Romans. From the 1970s farmers were encouraged to grow it more widely as an alternative to imported sunflower and olive oils. It has since become extremely popular and is now sold and branded under various proprietary names, along with some reasonably justified claims to health benefits compared with other oils. 2021 https://wharfevalleyfarms.co.uk https://www.yorkshirerapeseedoil.co.uk https://www.farrington-oils.co.uk |
