Scones with cinnamon powder mixed-in. Although now a commonplace treat, and presumably made since forever, we have not been able to trace any printed receipt before 1931. Image: Alex Bray... Original Receipt from Southern Reporter - Thursday 16 July 1931 Cinnamon Scones.— Sift together, twice, a cupful of flour, half a cupful of sugar, half a teaspoonful of salt, half a teaspoonful of ground cinnamon, a heaped teaspoonful of baking-powder. Mix this into a soft dough with four tablespoonfuls of melted butter, well-beaten egg, and half a cupful of sweet milk. Spread in a shallow pan, sprinkle thickly with sugar and cinnamon, and bake in a quick oven. Serve hot with butter or jam. See: Scones |
