[email protected]1 bottle red wine 12 lumps sugar 6 cloves 1 pt boiling water 1/4 pt curacao 1/4 pt brandy nutmeg Pour the wine into a saucepan, add the sugar and cloves and bring to near boiling point. Add the boiling water, curacao and the brandy. Pour into glasses and grate nutmeg on top. Dr Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) is most famous for his 'A Dictionary of the English Language' and for founding the Literary Club in 1764.  Samuel Johnson by Joshua Reynolds William Kitchiner (Kitchiner 1830) in 'The Cook's Oracle' of 1845 reports that; "Our great English moralist Dr. S. JOHNSON, his biographer Boswell tells us, "was a man of very nice discernment in the science of cookery," and talked of good eating with uncommon satisfaction. " Some people," said he, " have a foolish way of not minding, or pretending not to mind, what they eat; for my part, I mind my belly very studiously and very carefully, and I look upon it that he who does not mind his belly, will hardly mind any thing else."
