Compressed lozenge sweets bearing mottoes. Known at least since advertisements by Capsey, Wheen & Co in the 'Sheffield Daily Telegraph' of Saturday 17 July 1869

The present-day form are of circular fruit-flavoured sherbet sweet tablets made since 1933 by Matlow Bros. Ltd (now Swizzles Matlow of Derbyshire) approximately 3/4in diameter, 3/16in thick, the surface of each impressed with a raised heart-shape cartouche around one of a selection of mottoes such as 'BE MINE', 'LOVE' or, more recently, 'EMAIL ME' or 'Luv U 24/7'.
