Shallow blind-baked shortcrust base covered in red (usually raspberry) jam and a thick layer of set custard. Topped with coconut flakes. The receipt given by Mrs.B for 'Fanchonettes' is very similar. Manchester tarts at Manchester United Football Club Slight variations occur, including the addition of a layer of thinly sliced banana above the jam and of lemon flavouring in the custard. Known by this name at least since an article on London in 'The Cork Examiner' - Monday 23 April 1923 (p4) and in The Social Service Review (v20, p210) of 1946.
