Given in 'Food in England' by Dorothy Hartley (Hartley 1954) as; "Anchovies 12; cayenne pepper 1oz; soy 6 spoonfuls; walnut pickle 6 spoonfuls; garlic 3 bulbs; cochineal 1/4oz; shallots 2; vinegar 1 gallon." |
