Mushroom Loaves

Accompaniments Hollowed out small bread buns filled with mushrooms. See: Oyster Loaves
Original Receipt in Raffald 1769; To make Mushroom Loaves TAKE small buttons wash them as for pickling, put them in a tossing pan with a little white bread crumbs that have been boiled half an hour in water, then boil your mushrooms in the bread, and water five minutes thicken it with flour and butter, and two spoonfuls of cream but no yolks of eggs; put in a little salt then take five small French rolls; make holes in the tops of them about the fize of a shilling, and scrape out all the crumb and put in your mushrooms; stick a bay leaf on the top of every roll. Five is a handsome dish for dinner and three for supper
