Nelson’s Blood

Drinks
Norfolk

A nickname for rum, and, more recently, a brand of spiced rum provided by the ‘Lord Nelson’ Inn in Horatio Nelson’s home village of Burnham Thorpe in Norfolk.

After Nelson’s death at the battle of Trafalgar his body was preserved in a barrel of rum for the journey home. Naval legend has it that when the sailors learned of this, they tapped the barrel and drank the rum.

Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805)
