 A Whet of Individual stoned prunes or plums stuffed with a spicy mixture (eg. hot mango chutney), wrapped in bacon and baked. Served on a fried bread sippet. An alternative to 'Angels on Horseback' (qv) Known at least since 'Sunday Night Suppers' by Christine Terhune Herrick (Boston, USA, 1907). The 1911 comic novel of hades 'A safety match' by Ian Hay has; "'There's a nice tender sinner came in this morning, miss. You might have a few of his ribs; or would you prefer him served up grilled, with brimstone sauce? And I suppose you would like devils-on-horseback for a savoury.'"
