A gooseberry sufficiently sweet to be eaten alone. Developed in 1851 by J Greenhalgh of Ashton-under-Lyne. Described in John Wright's 'The fruit grower's guide' (1891-1894?) as; "LEVELLER. Fruit long, tapering; skin greenish yellow, smooth; early, and excellent; bush spreading, large, and an abundant bearer."
